Have you ever felt like you needed someone to talk to but you could not figure out who to turn to? Have you perhaps shared your story or feelings and ended up feeling judged or misunderstood? Does life feel overwhelming at times? Do you sometimes feel helpless? Well, if you answered yes to any of those questions; you are not alone. A lot of young people have been reported to face similar problems and many more. Being a young person in today’s world is not an easy thing; in fact it's suffocating, painful and sometimes scary but with the right guidance and support; the burden can be lessened. Born from the core of the dilemma of life is Youth Convo; a safe haven for every young person to run to when the going gets tough.

Youth Convo is an initiative by vibrant young people to create a safe space for youth engagement and support. It took the effort of a team that is passionate about youth wellness to sit and map out a way to bridge the gap between just dishing out knowledge about wellness and actually making sure that young people implement it into their lives. Youth Convo is in other words your new best friend. We are here to support all young people. We seek to groom a generation of young people who are not only happy and healthy but also are purpose driven and can positively contribute to their communities.

What’s the big idea anyways?

The highlight of the work Youth Convo does is cultivating mental wellness. We believe there is a lot that contributes to mental wellness spanning from social, physical health, academic and financial issues among others. We widen the horizon and aim to leave no stone unturned in terms of uncovering the issues that affect the youth. Ensuring that balanced attention is paid to all aspects of life will consequently plant the seed of wellness in the youth. We aim at achieving that primarily through conversation but also through various activities and engagements as the journey continues.

The primary goal of Youth Convo is to initiate productive and constructive conversations. The organisation has a social media presence on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, TikTok and Linked In so as to broaden the catchment area. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, all conversations and activities are to be carried out online in the meantime. There is an exciting line up of topics to be tackled each topic covered over a period of a week. Today marks the beginning of our first official week which is committed to familiarizing you with Youth Convo.

So; safe space huh?

We have noticed with great concern how there is a lot of discrimination and bullying especially online these days. A lot of people have been victimised for simply sharing their stories. As Youth Convo, we aim to remove that discrimination. Our IT team will work tirelessly to ensure that any hate speech is filtered out of all conversations and engagements. We encourage the youth to be sensitive to the issues that affect others. Yes; Youth Convo is indeed a safe space where every young person can freely express themselves and get the assistance, they need without being segregated.

Activities

Besides engaging the youth in constructive conversations and tackling major concerns for young people; future activities and engagements will include mentorship programmes; talent showcases and community outreaches. Youth Convo is a place of endless possibilities and so more opportunities are on the way. Stay tuned for all the developments!

Youth Convo Membership

Currently, Youth Convo is being run by a core team that manages all operations. We look forward to opening up membership to other young people in the near future which would mean unlimited access to our resources, constant updates on our activities, empowerment opportunities and a platform to work with other young people for positive societal change.
